Nursing Posture: an Article
It is very common for women to experience spinal pain during pregnancy as well as postpartum. The woman’s body goes through so many changes as ligament laxity affects all joints to prepare for birth, as well as the added weight and shift in posture. Chiropractic helps so many women prepare for these bodily changes by spinal realignment, removing spinal stresses, and exercises/stretches to help balance everything out.
Once the baby is delivered, the changes continue. There is bodily recovery, but there is also constant nursing, holding the growing infant, changing diapers, ect! One thing that is not always considered is the posture of the mother during all of these changes, and how it can affect her energy level, her recovery, and her mood (to name a few). I have attached this article from ICPA’s magazine, Pathways to Family Wellness, for further information on this topic below.
What I would like to illustrate most about this article:
When the head and shoulders are rolled forward, the sympathetic nervous system is activated.
The sympathetic nervous system creates a flight or fight response.
If your body is constantly in a state of sympathetic response, creating tension, pain, stress, ect.
Chiropractic adjustments directly affect structural misalignments and create a shift in the nervous system to promote healing, recovery, and relaxation.
Changing your feeding position can be done with a specific at home assessment, which is easily performed with house call chiropractic care. Schedule here to receive tailored adjustments and correction for you and your family.
I hope you find this article helpful! Feel free to contact me for a copy of Pathways for further reading.
